Amelia and Eliza Spencer, Diana’s granddaughters conquer (also) Venice

Among the many stars they have lit Venezia in recent days it has been impossible not to notice the Spencer sisters. Blondes, blue and magnetic eyes, elegant and sunny, the three granddaughters of Lady D, Kitty, Amelia and Eliza they have carved out a leading role among catwalks and red carpets.

The first to get noticed was the older sister, 30-year-old Kitty, at the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show which was held in the evocative setting of the Venice Arsenal on August 31st. For the eldest daughter of Charles Spencer and model Victoria Aitken it was the first public outing and a return to Italy after the fairytale wedding with the South African tycoon Michael Lewis, thirty-two years older than her, celebrated at the end of July at Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati.

Only forty-eight hours later the two younger sisters, the twins Amelia and Eliza, took the stage on the Lido of Venice. The two twenty-eight walked on the red carpet of Parallel Mothers, the film by Pedro Almodóvar that opened the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival. Elegant in long dresses by Alberta Ferretti, in contrast between a black and a pink dress, the blue-blooded twins showed themselves at ease under the flashes of the photographers.

On the other hand Diana’s granddaughters have been in the spotlight for months now. Last January have won the cover of Tatler, the “bible” of the British aristocracy, the top of the British posh magazines (the same magazine to which Kate Middleton sued, and won her, after she was described in a poison portrait as “an enriched, kitschy and dangerously thin just like Princess Diana”). Then in March, always together, inseparable, Amelia and Eliza debuted as models, posing for the spring / summer 2021 collection of the made in Italy brand Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini.

Born in London in July 1992, daughters of the Earl Charles (brother of Diana) and of Victoria Lockwood, Amelia ed Eliza they grew up in Cape Town, South Africa with their sister Kitty and younger brother Louis, 26, viscount of Althorp. After the South African years, they are back in England, on the beautiful Althorp estate over five thousand hectares of greenery in Northamptonshire. Eliza studies to become an interior designer. Amelia works as an event organizer and will soon get married to Greg Mallett, his partner for over ten years. The wedding will be celebrated on the Althorp family estate, the same where Diana, Charles and their other sisters grew up, and where the Princess of Wales is buried.

About Diana, who tragically died when they were only five years old, the Spencer twins said that “to us she was simply our aunt. Living in South Africa, when we were little we didn’t realize how important it was for the world ». In the interview with Tatler last January they gave an intimate memory of Lady D, defining her “warm, maternal and loving, with a deep predisposition to understand the hearts of children».
