An American Airlines flight to Washington yesterday diverted to Kansas City after crew members and passengers restrained a passenger who did not comply with regulations, the airline said.
Flight 1775 from Los Angeles to Washington landed at Kansas City International Airport at about 2:30 pm local time, where law enforcement was waiting, according to an American Airlines announcement.
“An unruly passenger showed unpredictable behavior…, while he was effectively restrained by our crew and with the help of other passengers,” the airline said without giving further details about the incident.
U.S. airlines have reported a record number of incidents of unruly passengers, and sometimes incidents of violence in 2021. The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it is “fully committed” to punishing unruly passengers for violating federal law.
