Rob Gronkowski, along with NBA player Victor Oladipo and race car driver Landon Cassill, have agreed to settle a lawsuit brought against them by investors who were victims of the Voyager collapse. The plaintiffs should receive a total of $2,425,000 in damages, with $1.9 million coming from Gronkowski, $500,000 from Oladipo, and $25,000 from Cassill.
The lawsuit against these three American sports stars stems from the collapse of Voyager in July 2022. Then investors lost more than $3 billion. In September 2021, Gronkowski became a Voyager brand ambassador. In addition, he was a shareholder and token holder of Voyager VGX. The crypto lender later came under scrutiny from regulators because the company claimed that its investors' deposits were protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In October 2023, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warned that these claims by the Voyage team were false.
“The collapse of Voyager and subsequent bankruptcy resulted in billions of dollars in losses to investors who purchased unregistered securities in the form of VGX tokens and Voyager Interest Accounts (EPAs),” court documents state.
A sports businessman, Marc Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball club, is involved in the proceedings. Previously, the plaintiffs accused the billionaire of misleading them by not disclosing information about fees for cryptocurrency transactions made on the Voyager Digital platform.
