The US Department of Justice said a Mississippi woman was sentenced to ten years in prison for planning to kill her ex-husband. The woman paid the killer with bitcoins.
Back in February, 40-year-old Jessica Leeann Sledge pleaded guilty to attempted contract killing. Through the darknet, she contacted the alleged killer and paid him the first cryptocurrency for the murder of her ex-husband. Back in October 2021, a woman made several Bitcoin transactions totaling approximately $10,000.
As it turned out, the “hit man” was an undercover FBI agent. Jessica Sledge repeatedly contacted him via WhatsApp and provided the necessary information to eliminate her ex-husband, including photos and data on cars.
The court gave Miss Sledge a 120-month prison sentence. After she is released from prison, she must remain under observation for another 36 months. In addition, the ex-wife was fined $ 1,000. The defendant’s lawyer emphasized that for Sledge this is “the first crime” and “the probability of relapse is almost zero.”
In 2020, Kristy Lynn Felkins, an American from Nevada, was prosecuted for trying to pay for the work of her husband’s killer in similar ways.
