American solves Rubik’s cube in 3.13 seconds and is new world record holder

The American Max Park is the new world record holder for solving Rubik’s cube — or magic cube, here in Brazil. According to the Guinness World Records (GWR) organization, he broke the record by solving a 3x3x3 rotating cube in just 3.13 seconds, 0.34 seconds less than the time of the Chinese Yusheng Du, in 2018.

Before that, Park’s best time was 3.63 seconds. The 21-year-old, who is already a member of the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame, achieved the feat at the Pride in Long Beach 2023 event in California, USA.

Park holds almost all records for solving speed of Rubik’s cubes: he holds the world’s best single solving and average solving times for 4x4x4, 5x5x5, 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 cubes.

He also held the 3x3x3 average record together with Tymon Kolasiński, from Poland, with a time of 4.86 seconds, until he was dethroned by Chinese Yiheng Wang, aged 9, who reached the mark of 4.69 seconds, in 2023.

According to the GWR website, Park was diagnosed with autism and, for his parents, the cube turns out to be good therapy. “There was a time when Max couldn’t even open water bottles, but he showed an interest in solving Rubik’s Cubes,” he says.

Park is currently an official ambassador for Rubik and was featured in the 2020 Netflix documentary Magos dos Cubo.
