The main reason why startup founders believe in their chances of success is trivial efficiency – if you believe their calculations, such an airship is capable of carrying much heavier loads than any modern cargo plane (an airship can lift 8-10 times more than regular aircraft), although the cost of one flight is four times lower.
For example, representatives of the startup H2 Clipper announced the maximum payload of the airship at 150 thousand kilograms (150 tons), while the volume of the cargo compartment of the aircraft is 7,530 cubic meters. These are really impressive indicators of carrying capacity, which will allow you to transport bulky and heavy loads at a fairly low price. True, the speed of the airship is lower than that of a cargo plane – the declared cruising speed is 282 km / h, but this is almost ten times faster than the delivery of goods by ships by sea. Accordingly, transport companies may well be interested in a new type of air delivery, which, importantly, can boast of zero emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

The fact is that the H2 Clipper airships will use electric propulsion systems for movement, which will be “powered” from hydrogen fuel cells. Due to this, the transport vessel will be able to deliver cargo at a distance of up to 9,700 kilometers, and there is no need to build separate airports for loading and unloading, since the airship takes off and lands vertically. Moreover, enthusiasts even announced the possibility of installing solar panels on the hull of the ship in order to receive additional energy directly during the flight, charging the batteries.
