Americanas launches technology training course with 20,000 scholarships

Americanas launched a technology training program for university students and recent graduates interested in data science and software engineering. Up to 20,000 scholarships will be made available.

The course, called American Futuro Polo Tech, is in its first edition and has content developed by Let’s Code. According to Americanas, the project is estimated to impact 70,000 students in up to five years.

Aiming to “expand the development of technology talent beyond the Rio-São Paulo axis”, the company announced that this first edition will focus on people from Manaus, Quixadá, Russas, Itapajé, Florianópolis and Recife, in addition to the Greater Vitória region.

Applications can be made until September 21 through the website polotech.americanas.io.

In a first step, the course will be 100% online and will cover introductory concepts and practices in data science and software engineering (front-end and back-end), which will count as the initial phase of the selection process.

The second part will contemplate only the 200 best evaluated candidates, who will undergo a deepening in both disciplines. For those selected, the program will last five months, with asynchronous content and live online classes, held three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 7pm to 10pm.

In addition to the learning content, the program will have the exclusive participation of Google Cloud in the training of the 200 selected students, who will have access to practical labs and digital skill badges.

“The data learner will be able to apply modern machine learning techniques to create predictions and data clusters using algorithms capable of learning by training,” said Gabriel Militello, head of Let’s Code from Ada’s pedagogy.

“The back-end classes will be able to apply the java language to create server-side web applications. On the front-end track, students will be able to create client-side applications using React, one of the most important frameworks at the moment”, he added.

Selective process

To participate in the selection process it is necessary to be a recent graduate or graduating from the last year of one of the following courses: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Statistics.

The selection process for the second phase of training is made up of the commitment to an initial online training, in addition to testing logic, mathematics and programming. Candidates will also have to prepare a presentation video and go through a group dynamic.

Finally, applicants must complete the Coding Tank stage, which includes remote, live, programming logic classes for practical evaluation. After completing all the steps, the candidate is evaluated and may become eligible to start the full course.
