Peruvian national police have found the body of a man who had been frozen for decades on the Huascarán mountain in the Peruvian Andes. According to authorities, the body had been mummified by the cold for 22 years and was sent for identification.
The AFP news agency later identified the man as William Stampfl, a 59-year-old American who was mountaineering in the area when he was hit by an avalanche in 2002.
According to the agency, the body was only exposed due to the melting of the Andean glaciers caused by global warming.
