America’s Cup: Team New Zealand’s triumph, fast as the wind

The America’s Cup is a matter of time. Day after day, one race after another. Vince who crosses the finish line first. This he did Team New Zealand against Luna Rossa. Te Rehutai, the Maori name that comes from the sea foam, was the fastest boat. It seems to be worth two knots, one meter per second, compared to the opponents in some situations.

Since it is a matter of time, congratulations could not be missing Omega, partner of Emirates Team New Zealand, for the victory of the 36th America’s Cup for 7 to 3 races, after a tough battle in Auckland’s waters in Waitemata Harbor.

The victory in 2021 of Emirates Team New Zealand brings the fourth America’s Cup, to the New Zealanders who prevailed in 1995, 2000 and 2017. Omega has been a proud supporter of Emirates Team New Zealand since 1995, and was Official Timekeeper in this year’s regattas in Auckland, reprising a fundamental role already played twice in 2000 and 2003.

Omega was therefore measuring times and gaps in the nights, for Italy, of the regattas. The characteristic of this edition of the America’s Cup was precisely the speed of boats that seemed to fly thanks to their avant-garde design: T-wing hydrofoils are mounted to port and starboard, a double skin semi-battened mainsail and the absence of a keel. They are space boats, fast as the wind and ready for the next adventure. Emirates Team New Zealand will once again be the title defender when the big clash on the waves is repeated.
