Amici 22: do Zerbi and Celentano’s provocations still work or not?

Let’s make it clear right away: on television nothing is as it seems, and it often happens that, to ensure the success of a program like Friends, it is necessary to carve out a character who can also be very different from the person who stages it every time the red light of the camera turns on. Having said that, let’s talk about two professors who ad Friends they’ve been playing villains since that kind of nastiness was the fuel of most television programs on the air almost everywhere: Rudy Zerbi and Alessandra Celentanoveterans, those who ad Friends they bet on some talents demolishing as many, often complying with that television register that the very strict and inflexible professor would like, determined not to recognize any kind of progress in the pupil because, if this were not the case, the character would see his credibility in question.

It is no coincidence that the production, for two years, has decided to put Celentano and Zerbi at the head of the same team, fueling the competition with the other teachers and, above all, the spirit of competition among the boys. The characters staged by Celentano and Zerbi have a double peculiarity: self-deprecating in the eyes of the public to demonstrate that they don’t take themselves too seriously – their ballets and their verses confirm this – and rigorous when it comes to judging students who are not part of their team. What clashes in a much softer television context than ten years ago is above all that destructive spirit that does not help the boy from Friends to improve. The fact that Alessandra Celentano repeats, for example, in each episode that Maddalena is a “cat” while Isobel is a “lioness” is limiting, because it is very clear that, even if Maddalena amazed the teacher in a positive way, she would never recognize him.

What is the use, then, in a school where empathy and respect for professionalism have always been the masters, to have such an obtuse and unproductive attitude? The same goes for Zerbi who, instead of teasing the boys, focuses mainly on the other teachers. The fact that you pull out a chicken puppet putting her now Arisa’s wig and now Lorella Cuccarini’s before calling them to challenge confirms an attitude that is easily misunderstood by those who follow the program from home, because we know that Zerbi has great esteem for his colleagues – let’s think about the speech he made to Arisa right at Friends when the latter was questioning his abilities – but what appears on television he’s an annoying character to say the least who beats on the same key and ends up being incredibly unpleasant. We know it is the production of Friends that Maria De Filippi want the program to run smoothly from start to finish, but wouldn’t it be logical to ask if these curtains still work? Television has changed, languages ​​have transformed and it would be nice if Celentano and Zerbi tried, even just for a moment, to round off some side of their characters, making them less rigid. If we were them, we would try: we are sure they would benefit.
