Amid heat wave, streets in Mexico are covered in ice

An unexpected hail storm surprised residents in the Puebla region of Mexico, leaving streets covered in a thick layer of ice after a period of extreme heat.

In some cities, the layer of hail exceeded one meter in height, damaging houses, blocking roads and knocking down trees. Residents used shovels to remove ice that had accumulated on public roads.

The phenomenon occurred amid the third heat wave of the year in Mexico, with temperatures exceeding 45°C in nine states across the country. The hailstorm was so intense that many residents initially believed it was snowing.

In addition to material damage, the storm also caused traffic disruption, with streets blocked by ice accumulation. Local authorities worked to clear the roads and restore normality.

The contrast between the scorching heat and the sudden hailstorm highlights the impacts of climate change and the importance of measures to mitigate the effects of global warming.
