Amid shootings, police carry out operations in communities in the north of Rio

Teams from the Special Operations Command (COE) together with the Special Resources Coordination (CORE) and the Rio de Janeiro Narcotics Repression Police Station carried out, on the morning of this Friday (26), an operation in the Alemão and da Penha, in the north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Secretary of State for the Military Police, the operation aims to arrest fugitives from justice from other states, repress criminal movements and prevent the explosion of territorial disputes, in addition to curbing vehicle thefts.

The two complexes in the north are considered the main strongholds of the Comando Vermelho (CV) in Rio.

On social media, residents reported that the intense shooting began early in the morning.

According to the PM, so far, no victims or prisoners have been identified. The operation remains ongoing.

In a note, the Rio Municipal Department of Education informed that there are no classes in school units today due to the planning activities foreseen in the school calendar.

The Municipal Health Department said that, in Complexo da Penha, the Clínica da Família Aloysio Augusto Novis continues to serve the population, but external activities carried out in the territory, such as home visits, were suspended this Friday morning (26).

In the Complexo do Alemão region, the Clínica da Família Rodrigo Y Aguilar Roig activated the safer access protocol and, for the safety of professionals and users, suspended operations. The Valter Felisbino de Souza unit continues to serve the population, but external activities carried out in the territory have been suspended.
