Amid tension with US, Cuban army prepares for “enemy invasion”

The Cuban Army carried out two days of military exercises across the island against the threat of an “enemy invasion”, celebrating this Saturday (20th) the National Defense Day

The Cuban state press ACN broadcast live the army’s activities, which began on Thursday (18) and take place across the island.

The exercises were announced after opposition activists said they planned a new protest this weekend.

Activists tried to stage anti-government demonstrations last Monday (15), but the strong police presence and stern warnings from Cuban authorities thwarted these plans.

According to state media, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and former Cuban leader Raúl Castro are following the military exercises.
