In the two telephone conversations, one of the main topics was the emergency summit on the war that will take place in Egypt. The meeting, on Saturday (21), will be attended by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — United States, Russia, China, United Kingdom, France — and countries from the Middle East.

Brazil was invited and will send the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, who went to New York yesterday (headquarters of the United Nations). Spain, which currently presides over the European Union, and Italy were also called by the Egyptian authorities.

According to reports made to CNN Emmanuel Bonne — Macron’s diplomatic advisor — conveyed a message from the French president thanking him for the Brazilian initiative in the Security Council.

Carefully tailored in recent days, the resolution proposed by Brazil ended up receiving 12 votes in favor, but was vetoed by the United States. Bonne reportedly said that France intends to continue working together with Brazil on issues related to the war.

In conversation with Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s international advisor, Amorim heard that it is necessary to continue looking for ways out of the conflict within the UN.

Shortly after yesterday’s American veto, Russia talked about calling the United Nations General Assembly extraordinarily to deliberate on the issue. This is an alternative to “circumvent” impasses in the Security Council. Brazil has not yet commented on this possibility.
