Blake Fielder-Civil ex-husband of Amy Winehouse gave an exclusive interview for the “Good Morning Britain” program, on British broadcaster ITV, and spoke about how much he misses the singer, who would have turned 40 this Thursday (14).
Blake and Amy met in 2005, but only made their union official in 2007, and ended two years later, in 2009.
The artist even dedicated one of her best-known songs to her ex, at the beginning of their relationship, in 2006, when she released the album “Back do Black”, with the song of the same name, which showed the intense relationship the couple had. , also surrounded by chemical and alcohol dependence.
“It’s sad, but I wanted to say happy birthday to Amy. It’s devastating that she’s not here. I think about her all the time, I thought about her this morning when I congratulated her, she was my best friend,” she said.
“If it weren’t for some factors, I think it could have been a different result. It all happened very quickly for Amy. We were very young,” she added.
In July 2011, at age 27, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home in London, England .
The report found that she died of alcohol poisoning.
Guilt and chemical dependency
To presenters Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard, the singer’s ex commented on how Amy’s fans blamed him for her chemical dependency.
He also said that close friends and other family members should also respond in this matter.
“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to speak today. I [sou culpado] and that’s ok. I can’t change what other people think about this, but personally, I needed to stop carrying this burden. I’ve been carrying this for over 10 years,” he said.
“I’m the only person in this story who has ever taken any responsibility. I made some serious mistakes. I was also addicted to drugs in my early 20s. I had no idea how to get sober, much less help someone else,” he said.
Asked if he has any contact with the artist’s family, he said that he is “not sure about that” and that he is currently “rebuilding” himself.
“’I’m not sure about their interests, but personally, this is something that crosses my mind a lot. There were times when I thought, ‘Would there be any value in me talking to her family? Some kind of reconciliation?’. In common, we all loved that person”, he added.
‘I was a 20-something-year-old drug addict and I had no idea how to make myself clean, let alone somebody else’
