Amy Winehouse’s wardrobe sold at auction: 243 thousand dollars for the latest dress

With a hammer blow on the figure of $ 243,200, one of the legendary dresses in the history of rock in recent years can start a new story yet to be built. In a two-day event in Beverly Hills on November 6 and 7 at the auction house Julien’s Auction Over 800 pieces have been banned, including clothes, accessories, jewelry and personal effects, which belonged to Amy Winehouse.

Among these was the tight fitting sheath dress with a bamboo leaf pattern designed for her by her friend as well as her stylist Naomi Parry worn for the last tragic live appearance, that of June 18, 2011 at Kalemegdan Park in Belgrade. That concert should have kicked off the European tour (one of the stages of the Lucca tour scheduled for July 16 was later canceled) which unfortunately was not followed up: the artist was found lifeless in her apartment in Camden Town on July 23 of that same year.

Thanks to the auction they were collected 4 million dollars destined in part to support the projects of the The Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity created by the parents of the London singer-songwriter Mitch and Janis with the aim of helping vulnerable young adults with the same addiction problems that plagued their daughter to the tragic end.

The bamboo mini-dress started from a base of 15-20 thousand dollars but in the end achieved 16 times the estimated value. For that same tour, Naomi Parry in collaboration with the artist had created a collection of 11 dresses that have practically never been seen the cancellation of the tour: some of these are auctioned for much more modest figures. “The dress was supposed to be the start of something new and Amy was going so well,” confessed the stylist al New York Post “Instead in the end it went from symbolizing something exciting to representing absolute devastation.”

Among the 800 pieces, there is the heart-shaped bag made to measure for her by Moschino flaunted to the Brit Awards 2007: also in this case we are talking about a record figure since it was sold for 204 thousand dollars. The polo shirt of the collection Fred Perry-Amy Winehouse was sold for 32 thousand euros, the same amount for the cardigan in mohair blend dressing gown by Dolce & Gabbana spotted on the artist on March 3, 2011 as he walked out of the Hawley Arms Pub in Camden. Among the items that came out of Amy Winehouse’s wardrobe also several pairs of dancers that she used to wear and dozens of dresses that are part of the imagination that binds us to her memory as a floral dress with straps worn in 2003 (sold for $ 46,875) and a pin-up style bodysuit by Provocative factor.

Someone found it bad taste to even auction intimate items such as bras or swimwear also because not a few criticisms have been leveled over the years against the Winehouse family for managing their daughter’s inheritance.
Naomi Parry again intervenes on this point and does not judge the initiative negatively, on the contrary. “What’s the point of keeping all this stuff closed when it could be used to raise money for the foundation, do awareness campaigns, and show off all this at the same time?” he said. From November 26, 2021 to April 2022, part of the objects auctioned will be exhibited at the Design Museum in London in Amy: Beyond the stage, a way of celebrating the legend over ten years after his death.
The various lots will in fact be sent to the successful bidders only at the end of the exhibition. “There are a lot of difficult memories,” added friend Naomi, “I want something more positive to come from these clothes than it has been so far.” We really hope so.
