An affordable laptop with a sturdy chassis and a smooth hinge. Review Infinix InBook X2

We are already familiar with Infinix smartphones, now a laptop has reached Russia InBook X2. He interested me long before the Russian debut, it is interesting to know how the young brand coped with the task more difficult than a smartphone. Let’s get to know each other better!

Design and ergonomics

To diversify the look of the laptop, Infinix resorted to an unusual blue color and a brushed insert on the lid. Otherwise, the design of the InBook X2 is quite ordinary by the standards of modern ultrabooks. The company itself calls its laptop thin and light. Quite rightly, the 1.24-kilogram, 14.8-mm-thick case isn’t heavy, and it fits in any small backpack.

Compactness is not at the expense of the rigidity of the case: the fitting of parts is tight, and the assembly is monolithic. Not every expensive laptop can boast of such quality. And there is not much to add here.

I was also struck by the hinge: an inexpensive laptop comfortably opens with one hand, and the screen does not wobble in the open position. When the laptop is closed, a magnetized closer is activated, fixing the lid in the closed position. The opening angle is far from the coveted 180 degrees, but lying down is not a problem.

Display and sound

The screen is nice: IPS, 14 inches with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and a maximum brightness of 300 cd / m². The value can hardly be called high, but it is comfortable to work during the day, thanks to a successful matte finish. The matrix, by the way, is recessed into the case, and the frame is not thick. The color gamut (100% sRGB) and contrast make the screen suitable for imaging.

A nice detail: there are discreet rubber dampers around the entire perimeter of the screen, which protect both the frame and the topcase from scratches.

There were also some controversial issues. Two LEDs are built into the sides of the camera, which are designed to illuminate the face during video conferencing. They give diffused light, but still slightly blind, as they are directed directly into the eyes. And the practical meaning of such a backlight is only in very dark conditions, when it is much more rational to turn on a table lamp or any other lamp. The LEDs are activated by combining FN with a space.

The speakers are pleasantly impressed, the sound is loud, voluminous and clear even at maximum volume. The case even slightly resonates, but there is no abundance of low frequencies, high and medium frequencies prevail – the character is restrained. Once again, the InBook X2 surprised me in terms of sound.

Keyboard and touchpad

Keyboard impressions are controversial. On the one hand, all the keys are in place, they are all pleasant to the touch and work clearly. It also has two levels of backlighting. On the other hand, the mechanism is noisy and when you type quickly, the room is filled with the characteristic sound of the keyboard.

The touchpad suffers from the same uncertainty. It is large (124×71 mm) and there are no questions about accuracy, however, any pressing (not touching) is accompanied by an unpleasant ringing click. It seems like a trifle, but it spoils the impression.

Near the touchpad there is a convenient cutout for opening the lid

The indicators are placed in the upper left corner of the topcase. In addition to the power and sticky Caps Lock lights, quite unexpectedly, a webcam backlight indicator is provided. The laptop was deprived of a fingerprint scanner and face scanning, to enter the system you need to use a password or a short pin code.

Hardware and performance

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-1065G7, 4 cores and 8 threads, peak frequency up to 3.9 GHz, 10 nm.
  • Graphics chip: Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7.
  • RAM: 8GB LPDDR4 3200MHz dual channel.
  • Built-in Memory: 512 GB PCIe x4 NVMe SSD.
  • Wireless module: Intel Wireless-AC 9461 (Wi-Fi: 802.11ac, 1×1; Bluetooth 5.1).

The bet is made on the tenth generation of Intel Core – quite fresh and still productive. I have an older version based on an octa-core Core i7-1065G7 with powerful integrated graphics. With it, the laptop is as responsive as possible and is quite suitable not only for working on the Internet, but also for something more complicated: simple 3D graphics, designing and photo processing. Unfortunately, the older version is equipped with only 8 GB of RAM, so you should not count on uncompromising multitasking. One or two heavy applications in the background is the limit.

When powered by a battery with the “Max. productivity” indicators almost do not decrease. The Infinix InBook X2 has another performance hurdle.

Namely, a weak cooling system, including only one small fan and a short heat pipe. Because of this, even under moderate everyday load, the laptop spins the turntable, and it is audible even at low speeds. Do not think, silence remains in the browser, but as soon as you start loading several heavy pages and open some document in parallel, a rustle appears.

Under heavy load, the small fan is unable to dissipate enough heat, and the temperature quickly rises above the throttling limit. The maximum temperature on the processor reaches 100 degrees. And this is with a standard 15 W heat pack with an expansion to a modest 25 W.

Only 8 GB of RAM in the older version and a weak cooling system are good reasons to look at the middle modification with the i5-1035G1 and the same 8 GB of memory. The processor lags behind the Core i7 slightly and mainly in graphics. And the younger version on the Intel Core i3-1005G1 with 4 GB of RAM is rather a light and autonomous typewriter without any hitches in working with the heavy modern Internet.

All 4 PCIe NVMe lanes were used to connect the SSD. The drive is not a record, but fast and hassle-free.

The laptop comes without an operating system, the user can install Windows 10 or Windows 11. There is a TPM 2.0 module, so both versions work equally well. I tested the InBook X2 with a fresher operating system and did not notice any problems. The only thing I recommend is switching the scale from the standard 150% to 125%, since the interface is too large by default, and some applications do not fit on the screen. I also lacked a proprietary utility in which you can switch the Fn mode so that the multimedia options of the function keys are performed by default.

Operating time and connectors

By the standards of 14-inch laptops, the battery capacity is quite familiar 50 Wh. With it, you can count on 5-6 hours of battery life without saving energy and lowering the brightness. That is, InBook X2 can be taken to study or in a cafe without a charger. Although the standard 45-watt adapter is unlikely to take up much space in the bag. The cable is removable and long – 1.8 meters.

Accordingly, charging via USB-C, but only through the one located on the left side. You can also connect a monitor to it. The same symmetrical port on the right only supports data transfer and is suitable for connecting flash drives and other peripherals. Otherwise, the variety of interfaces is enviable. There are a couple of full-sized USB 3.0, and HDMI, and an audio jack, and even a microSD card reader.

And on the right there is a Kensington lock

Review after two weeks of use

Oddly enough, Infinix turned out to be a comfortable laptop for every day – for work and study, or just as a family computer. On the one hand, the InBook X2 is compact and self-contained enough to be portable. On the other hand, it has good hardware and a complete set of interfaces for home use. The weak point is the cooling system. No, the laptop does not overheat, but it is noisy and does not reveal the potential of the Intel Core i7 due to the inability to maintain high performance without throttling. In summary, Infinix InBook X2 is an interesting novelty in modification with Intel Core i5 with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory.
