An An: Oldest male giant panda in captivity dies in Hong Kong – If he were human he would be 105

THE “An An”, the oldest giant male always in captivity he died at the age of 35 in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park theme park according to the AP. His health condition had deteriorated due to the high blood pressure he had been experiencing for the past three weeks. He had stopped taking solid food and was lethargic.

He lived most of his life in Ocean Park, along with female “Jia Jia” who died in 2016 aged 38.

“An An gave us beautiful memories with many touching moments. His wit and play will be sorely missed.”Ocean Park Corporation president Paulo Pong said in a statement.

“Ocean Park veterinarians along with government authorities after consulting the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center, they proceeded to euthanasiaa. “An An” lived a full life and managed to reach the age of 35, which is equivalent to the age of 105 for a human,” the statement said.

In the Hong Kong a further panda pair, Ying Ying and Le Le Le, has been given in 2007 to mark the 10th anniversary of the former British colony’s return to Chinese rule.
