An Biden-Erdogan appointment is being prepared in Glasgow

The President of the United States Joe Biden is likely to meet with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of next week’s COP26 international climate summit in Glasgow. The statement was made by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan inside the presidential plane carrying Biden to Rome for the G20 summit.

“I anticipate meeting with the Turkish president in Glasgow,” Sullivan said, adding, “I have no confirmation, but that is what we are predicting at the moment.”

It is recalled that yesterday Mr. Jake Sullivan spoke by phone with Erdogan’s top adviser Ibrahim Kalin, on issues such as Afghanistan, the Middle East, the South Caucasus and the eastern Mediterranean, according to a White House statement. At the same time, they discussed the defense relationship between their two countries, the White House said in a statement.

“They also agreed that it is important to continue the dialogue on resolving disputes and ‘maintaining constructive bilateral ties,'” the statement added.

As it is known, Erdogan eagerly wants a meeting with Biden, with the aim of resolving the big thorn in the relations between the two countries, which consists of the US refusal to accept the purchase of Russian S-400s from Ankara. The United States has barred Turkey from buying (and partly co-producing) F-35s – and now the Turkish president says he is seeking to buy and modernize dozens of F-16 fighter jets.
