An ‘electoral accident’ for Macron?

Concerns are growing about the electoral power of current French President and re-candidate Emmanuel Macron. Unfortunate moves, denial of debates and unpopular measures negatively affect his image.

Three days before the first round of the presidential election, although Emmanuel Macron continues to lead the polls, there is now a worrying erosion of voting intentions.

For the first time in today’s Opinion Way poll for the CNews channel, it has only 26% of the 28% in which it had stabilized, while Marin Lepen rose to 22%. And Melanson (of the radical left) is also moving up to 16% of the votes for the first round.

Strict warning for Macron

From the confidence of the first period, which was a favorite with a long distance from his opponents, his environment now becomes a concern. “An electoral accident is not out of the question for Macron,” is often heard around him.

The “erosion” began with the presentation of the president-candidate’s program on March 17. A program with measures that were not considered popular by a large number of citizens such as raising the retirement age to 65 (from 62 today), stricter terms and conditions for the approval of the solidarity income (RSA) and even new measures for teachers, whom he did not particularly persuade.

The painful end in Ukraine, despite his diplomatic action, neglecting the campaign, also did not help the French president. The fact that he refused any debate with his opponents was considered “undemocratic” and “arrogance”.

We note that today, he refused an invitation from the state radio France Info and sent in his place the Minister of Economy, Bruno Lemerre. “Another missed opportunity to answer the questions himself,” many say.
