As “extremely improbable”, the US intelligence services characterize the scenario that a “foreign agent” is responsible for the “Havana syndrome”.
This is the case, which had developed in the previous period into one cold war thriller, with theories that attributed to some secret weapon the strange symptoms that many American diplomats were experiencing, mainly in Cuba, but also in other countries around the world.
In the extensive investigation by the secret services of USAaccording confidential documentswhich were declassified and released in the last few hours to the public, many theories and scenarios were examined for the case.
Mysterious symptoms, among others migraines, nausea, memory lapses and vertigowere first recorded in American officials serving in the Havana in 2016. Other American diplomats, and members of their families, in other countries have reportedly experienced the same symptoms.
Since then it has followed a “carousel” of conspiracy theories that attributed the symptoms to some secret weapon or device. THE C.I.Acompleting the research, concluded that it is unlikely that Russia, Cuba or any other “foreign agent” has caused this strange “disease”.
Outlining the conclusions of an interim report on the Havana syndromea CIA official said that “of the 1,000 cases, most could reasonably be attributed to medical, environmental, or technical causes, including older, undiagnosed illnesses.”
