Twenty-five people were then taken to hospital from an explosion that damaged a residential building early this morning in Gothenburg, Sweden, broadcast the public radio station SR.
Police said they had launched an investigation. A spokesman for Salgrenska University Hospital said three women had been seriously injured.
Emergency services said they were working to evacuate people from the area and put out fires in the building.
“Apartments and stairwells have been damaged. “It is unclear at this time what caused the explosion,” Gothenburg’s emergency services said.
A spokesman for the emergency services said hundreds of people had been evacuated from the area where the blast and fire broke out.
The causes of the explosion and fire are not known. In recent years there has been an increase in gang-related crime in Sweden, as rival gangs use explosives and firearms to clear accounts.
