An important MacBook software update removes the risk of hardware damage. MacOS Big Sur 11.2.2 released

MacOS Big Sur 11.2.2 fixes a nasty bug that could lead to hardware damage.

As noted by Apple, the update prevents hardware damage on 2019 and newer MacBook Pros and 2020 MacBook Airs that could occur when connected to certain incompatible third-party USB Type-C docking stations and hubs with a power supply.

As users complained on the forums, when using such accessories, Apple computers could become unusable. Many of these complaints were from MacBook Pro and “MacBook Air” users based on Apple M1 SoCs.
