Today I got my hands on a box with a very long name Samsung Tab A Kids (2021), behind which, as it turned out, hides not a separate tablet, but rather a special edition, but let’s talk about everything in order. I talk about my impressions of the device and try to answer the questions “why?”, “For whom?” and “is it worth taking?”
Equipment
A smaller box in a larger box
The first surprise during the unboxing of the Samsung Tab A Kids (2021) was that in a large beautiful box with smeshariki under a bright green case, which we will talk about later, there is another one – with the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite WiFi. Thus, the thesis I put forward at the beginning is confirmed: this is not a separate tablet model, but only a special edition. Do not think that this is not a reproach towards Samsung, but rather useful information in order to form a correct idea of the device. Actually, already inside the box of the tablet there is a standard set in the form of a charger, a cable and several instructions.
Design
Bright, functional and very durable case

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite WiFi itself looks very standard: a thin dark body, a neat camera peephole and moderate bezels around the edges of the display. That is why I will not focus on it and move on to the case. It is here the highlight of the program and the hallmark of any other Samsung tablet. In fact, you only need to know two things about it: it is comfortable and indestructible.

The EVA form material (also called foamed ethylene vinyl acetate), from which the cover is made, has all the necessary properties to survive a meeting even with the most active child. It is both durable and moderately soft (if desired, pressed with a finger), and not at all slippery. In other words, it is difficult to think of something better in this situation.

However, I fell in love with the cover not because of its properties and not because of the bright light green color. The fact is, on its back side there is an impressive folding leg with a swivel mechanism. It is needed here so that you can place the tablet both vertically and horizontally. And the dimensions of the stand, which I called impressive in the line above, can be explained quite simply: these are children. The thicker and more reliable the better. For the same reasons, I do not complain about the increase in size due to the thickness of the case. It is here for the benefit of shock resistance.
Display
HD resolution and TFT technology

Smoothly moving on to the characteristics of the tablet, you should immediately make a reservation that they are far from the top ones, which somehow follows from the price. As for the display, it is here at 8.7 inches, despite the number 7 in the name – an unusual solution. The 1340×800 resolution is not enough for such a diagonal, but children obviously will not find fault with the graininess of the image. But the blue on the screen and not the brightest colors, it seems to me, can become a stumbling block for especially selective young users.
Iron
3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage

At the heart of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite WiFi is the MediaTek MT8768T processor, aka Helio P22T. He is assisted by 3 GB of RAM, and for data storage Samsung has provided 32 GB of storage expandable with microSD memory cards up to 1 TB. The tablet does not freeze or freeze when playing interface animations, but in general, there is a certain slowness in the system – it is clear that the One UI shell loaded with decorations is given to it with a stretch. For simple games like Cut the Rope or Subway Surf, the device is enough for the head. I would not recommend running more complex projects like Fortnite or World of Tanks on it.
Camera
Above average in the low-cost tablet segment

But what I did not expect was a decent picture quality from the cameras built into the tablet. Often, even in more expensive models, manufacturers insert some kind of “plugs” for 1-2 megapixels, which will not allow you to shoot even the lesson schedule or any other text. Everything is different here. The 8-megapixel main camera with autofocus allows you to take pictures, the quality of which should be enough for a child, and the 2-megapixel front camera with portrait mode is good for video communication.
Battery
5100 mAh is enough with the head

All battery test results and test method description
A 5100 mAh battery is installed inside the tablet, which allowed it to hold out in the Trashbox.ru proprietary test for almost 14 hours, playing video over Wi-Fi at medium brightness. The result, in my opinion, is more than decent – such a tablet can be safely taken on a long trip.
conclusions
Bundle “regular tablet + protective case” works

Summing up after a short acquaintance with Samsung Tab A Kids (2021), I would like to say that this set clearly has something to offer. If you want to find a durable device that can captivate a young user and won’t break the first time you drop it, you don’t have many options. Yes, it’s just a Tab A7 Lite WiFi with a fancy case, but what else do you need? Moreover, the extra charge for such a bright and functional accessory and a cute box with smeshariki does not go beyond reasonable limits, because such a bundle costs only a few thousand more than usual, and I have never seen such a case on sale separately.
Perhaps the only (but rather serious) drawback of the tablet is the controversial technical component, because of which I can recommend the device for purchase only to preschool children. If your child has already grown up to large-scale 3D games, he may not be satisfied with the hardware of this tablet.
pros
- Indestructible foam cover.
- Decent cameras (as for a tablet).
- Reasonable mark-up for a case and a sense of celebration.
Minuses
- Mediocre iron.
- Dim screen.
