Microsoft recently released another test build of Windows 10 21H2 “Sun Valley Update” for Insiders Early Access. Build 21337 includes several new features and makes Notepad a standalone Microsoft Store app.
The Notepad app for Windows 10 got quite a bit of attention in 2020 when Microsoft updated it with several new features. Build 21337 or later will automatically install Notepad updates through the Microsoft Store.
Notepad has been included with Windows since the release of Windows 1.0 and has been updated with each release of Windows. According to the official notes, Notepad was last updated with loop search, unsaved content indicator and other improvements.

By moving the famous text editor to the Microsoft Store, the company made it so that it can be updated like any other app in the store, and it won’t be tied to OS updates. It will also allow Microsoft to respond more quickly to issues and feedback, and to resolve issues with individual updates.
It is currently unclear if Notepad will also receive updates through the Windows Store for older OS versions, including 21H1 and 20H2. It is also unknown if any major features are planned, such as dark mode. Notepad has been moved from the Windows Accessories folder and will have its own place on the Start menu.
