A high-ranking delegation of Israel’s security services arrived in Qatar today to negotiate a deal to release hostages held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for a ceasefire, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said. This move is interpreted as an indication that reaching an agreement is near. Qatar, Egypt and the US, which has a mediating role, have renewed their efforts to reach a cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip, as well as the release of the 98 hostages held there, before the assumption of presidential duties by Donald Trump on January 20. Netanyahu’s office announced yesterday that the delegation includes the head of Mossad David Barnea, the head of the internal security service (Shin Bet) Roman Barr, and also Major General Nizan Alon.
