An Italian minister asked a train driver to stop to get off at an unscheduled stop

THE Italian Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida asked a train driver yesterday, Tuesday trainen route from Turin to Salerno, near Naples, to make an unscheduled stop at the Italian capital’s second airport, Campino, in order to disembark, according to extensive reports in the Italian press today.

The request of the minister, who is also son-in-law of Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, was satisfied and was due, as it turned out, to a delay in the train due to problems with the railway network. Lollobrigida continued his journey in a company car, as reported by APE-MPE.

The news leaked today and caused the strong reaction from the forces of the Italian opposition. From the center-left Democratic Party it is emphasized that “the minister cannot turn Italian trains into his private car” and that “the news of the unscheduled stop in Tsampinos is a sign of great arrogance and is a slap in the face to all Italian citizens who traveled with the same train”.

According to the centrist former prime minister Matteo Renzi“it’s about abuse of power unprecedented” and, “if the news is officially confirmed, the resignation of the minister should be requested”. The president of the Five Star Movement and former prime minister Giuseppe Conte underlines that “this is a very wrong message of the policy to every citizen, in a phase of cuts and strict fiscal policy”.

Responding to the criticism, Tommaso Fotti, a representative in the parliament of Giorgia Meloni’s “Brothers of Italy” party, emphasized that Lollobrigida wanted at all costs to be able to attend an anti-Mafia initiative in the Italian South. He added, finally, that when he was prime minister, “Renci had used the government aircraft for his personal affairs”.
