Analena Berbok: The few thousand euros that… forgot to declare in time provoke debate

This is her first mini scandal recently nominated Chancellor Analena Berbock; The co-chair of the Greens did not publicly declare the payment of a few thousand euros, because she forgot to do it on time.

These are amounts he has received since he took office as co-chair of the Greens party in 2018. The source of the money, however, is not at all suspicious or illegal, since the payments come from her own party.

The reason for the payment is not particularly terrible either. This amount consists of special payments received by each employee of the federal office of the Greens, e.g. for Christmas, due to a successful election campaign e.g. European elections or as a bonus for special attention to the coronavirus issue during this period.

So what is the fuss about? Burbok should have declared these payments publicly and on time on its website, because they exceed the normal salary of a member of the federal parliament (Bundestag).

However, this did not happen, as announced by Greens. “But in March 2021, Ms. Burbok announced the specific payments for the years 2018 to 2020, when she and her party’s federal office found that this had not yet been done by mistake“, As explained a party representative.

However, according to the Athens News Agency, this is a violation of the law for members of the federal parliament (Bundestag), since all additional income must be declared in a timely manner and publicly on the website of each member of parliament – at least approximately.

In her case Analena Berbock have declared on its website a one-time additional income of up to 7,000 euros for 2018 and special payments up to 15,000 at most for 2019 and 2020. In total, ie approximately 37,000 euros. However, according to information from the newspaper “Bild”, Burbok is said to have received a total of 54,000 euros.

As the representative of the Greens announced, the delayed statement of the whole was made on her own initiative. “The administration did not call on Ms. Berbock to do so,” he said.

The Sueddeutsche Zeitung briefly commented on the incident as follows: “He stated them but not in time and publicly as he should have. This is not a scandal, as in the case of mediation for the supply of masks by Christian Democrats and Christian Socialist politicians who have encapsulated several hundred thousand euros, but it weakens the Green Chancellor, whose campaign is based on campaigning. “Anyone who denounces transparency as an inviolable principle should not have made such a mistake.”
