A recent national survey in the United States revealed a scenario of a technical tie between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, with 46% and 43% of voting intentions, respectively. The survey’s margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
According to international analyst Lourival Sant’Anna, the difference between the candidates narrowed compared to the previous survey, carried out between September 20 and 23, when Harris had a 6 percentage point advantage over Trump.
Economy and immigration: Trump’s strengths
The analyst highlighted that voters are considering Trump to be more effective in the economy than previously.
About 70% of respondents emphasized the issue of inflation, with significantly more voters believing that Trump would be better at dealing with this problem than Harris.
Furthermore, Trump also has an advantage on the issue of immigration. Many voters agree with the former president’s view that immigrants commit more crimes, although statistics do not support this perception.
Key states and challenges for Harris
In the seven states considered decisive for the election (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Georgia), polls show a technical tie between the candidates, with a slight advantage for Harris.
However, the vice president faces challenges in her recent interviews.
When asked what she would do differently from President Biden, Harris was unable to articulate convincing answers on the economy or foreign policy, highlighting the difficulty in positioning herself as a candidate of change while maintaining loyalty to the current administration.
With less than a month until the election, the race remains tight, and both candidates face significant challenges in winning the trust of the American electorate.
