Analysis: negotiations on the end of the war are not what Zelensky expected

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been a symbol of the western unified position against an autocratic Russia.

Kellogg suggested a peacekeeping force composed by Europeans.

He stated that Ukraine should give up NATO affiliation and proposed a ceasefire (since then suggested in interviews that elections could then occur in the country).

Most importantly, the general said that Ukrainian help should be transformed into loans that Kiev would one day pay. Perhaps this would be part of Bessent’s proposal to Zelensky on Wednesday (12).

Rare lands for American aid

Rare land minerals were also discussed in Kiev on Wednesday, although this is not necessarily great news based on precedents.

When Trump was briefly seduced to support Afghanistan in 2017 due to his alleged trillions of minerals, he, regardless of this, signed an agreement with the Taliban to let them take power just over two years later.

There are reasons for expecting the Republican approach to be based on more immutable principles and sophisticated base work.

He and his team clearly had confidential discussions and seem to be articulating a plan that Kellogg formulated some time ago and requires application, cunning and patience to accomplish it.

Putin has it to the mountains, and the victory in Ukraine will dictate his personal survival, legacy and the balance of powers globally for decades.

For Trump, the war in Ukraine is the thing he thought he could fix in 24 hours after reaching power, that he would never have started if he was in office in 2022.

It is not his priority. Zelensky not either. The man at the top of his call list is Putin. It is with him that he seeks to make peace, although the United States is not technically at war in Ukraine. And that is, for now, everything we need to know.
