The dispute between China and the United States is likely to become more intense in the coming years, especially in the area of technology, according to Américo Martins, senior International analyst at CNN .
The expert highlights that this competition will be particularly fierce in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
Donald Trump has unveiled an ambitious strategy for what he calls America’s “golden age,” focused on economic protectionism and technological advancement.
The plan includes a massive investment of up to US$500 billion in infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) over four years, with US$100 billion already in the first year.
Benefits and risks of artificial intelligence
Américo Martins highlights the positive potential of AI in several sectors, such as health and transport. However, he warns of two main risks:
- The lack of effective regulation on the development and application of AI, as well as on social networks and big tech.
- The formation of possible oligopolies and oligarchies, resulting from the union between large companies and power groups.
The analyst emphasizes the need for global minimum regulation for AI, allowing each country to establish more detailed rules.
However, he notes that President Trump has shown no interest in any type of regulation in the United States or globally.
Concentration of power
Recently, three major American companies announced significant investment in AI, coinciding with the start of US President Donald Trump’s term in office.
Américo explains that, although Trump supports this initiative, the investment is private in nature.
“Companies most likely waited for the beginning of President Donald Trump’s term in office to make this announcement, also because they know that he is an ally of these types of initiatives”, says the analyst.
Américo also draws attention to the risks highlighted by former president Joe Biden in his last speech to Americans.
Biden warned about the dangerous connection between big companies, tycoons and political power, which could lead to the formation of new oligopolies.
“I want to alert the country about some things that worry me a lot. And that is a dangerous concern. This is the dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a few ultra-rich people and the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power goes unchecked,” Biden said in the Oval Office of the White House.
