International analyst Fernanda Magnotta assessed that Ukraine is intensifying its attack fronts as a strategy to increase its bargaining power in eventual peace negotiations with Russia. The specialist carried out this analysis during her participation in the program CNN 360° .
According to Magnotta, both Ukraine and its Western allies are focused on launching more attacks against Russian territory, believing this will give them an advantage in future negotiations.
“The best way to increase bargaining capacity is precisely by intensifying the attack front”, he explained.
Brazilian proposal criticized
The analyst also commented on the recent peace proposal presented by Brazil at the UN, classifying its “timing” as questionable.
“We are talking about a negotiated exit from a war at a time when the parties involved in this war are understanding that the best way to expand their bargaining capacity is precisely to intensify the attack front”, he pointed out.
Magnotta highlighted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been irritated by peace initiatives that do not include Ukraine in prior discussions.
According to her, Zelensky sees these proposals more as “surrender plans” than true peace plans.
The expert also highlighted that Zelensky does not accept giving up any part of Ukrainian territory, including the areas occupied by Russia since 2014.
This makes the positions of the two countries practically irreconcilable at the moment, making any peace negotiations difficult.
Brazilian credibility questioned
Finally, Magnotta pointed out that Brazil faces questions about its ability to mediate the conflict in Ukraine, considering the diplomatic challenges that the country has in its own region.
“How is Brazil going to want to arbitrate the situation there in Ukraine, if it is not even able to arbitrate the situation with our neighbor here in Venezuela?”, exemplified the analyst, reflecting the criticism that Brazil has received behind the scenes of the Assembly UN General.
