According to the expert, Trump’s insistence on having the microphone open during the debate is nothing new.
“Anyone who has followed Donald Trump in all the debates since the 2016 election knows that this particular factor, the open microphone, was used by him as a strategy, not only to disrupt what his opponent was saying during the time he was designated, but also as a way to impose himself and, at all times, keep the attention focused on himself,” explained Magnotta.

The analyst recalled that, after the turbulent 2016 debates between Trump and Hillary Clinton, new rules were adopted to control the use of microphones.
“In 2016, during the Trump-Hillary election, we had a real scandal in what was supposed to be a space for debate, proposals and agendas,” he said.
Magnotta also noted that Trump’s questions about the debate rules may be an attempt to find a “dignified exit” from a confrontation he has already shown reluctance to participate in.
The analyst pointed out that the former president does not feel comfortable being questioned by ABC News, with whom he has had public disagreements in the past.
