Analyst: Apple AR headset will receive a processor like a Mac and will work without an iPhone

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed some details about Apple’s long-rumored augmented reality headset. According to him, the device will be released in 2022, will receive a processor with the same performance level as the Mac, and this will significantly distinguish the headset from existing counterparts.

“The device will have the processing power of a Mac, will be able to operate independently of a Mac or iPhone, and will support a wide range of applications, not just individual applications,” Min-Chi Ko wrote.

The analyst claims that Apple will replace its smartphones with AR technology within 10 years, and the headset will be the first step towards this plan. He is confident that an AR headset equipped with two processors will appear next year. One of them – high-performance – will be comparable in power to the M1 for Mac, and the other – less productive – will be responsible for the calculations associated with various sensors. Min-Chi Ko also suggests that the device will be equipped with two 4K-Sony displays with a Micro OLED matrix.

According to the analyst, the headset will have its own ecosystem and a full-fledged interface. However, this contradicts earlier rumors, which said the device needed an iPhone to function.
