Global laptop shipments reached 65.6 million units in the second quarter of this year, up 15% from the same period last year, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics. Analysts believe that such growth is due to the fact that many companies have returned to the previous mode of work, or switched to a combined option, when some of the employees work in offices, and the rest – remotely. Lenovo continues to dominate the market with a 24% share, setting another record for most notebooks sold in the quarter (15.5 million units). A year earlier, the company was able to sell 14% less.
HP retained the second position. It shipped 14.9 million laptops to the global market, an 11% increase over the same period last year. Analysts associate such indicators with the implementation of backorders from previous quarters. The third place is occupied by Dell, which was able to increase its share by 1.5% (16.2%). In the second quarter of 2021, laptop shipments from this manufacturer rose to 10.7 million units, up 26% over the same period last year. The company has maintained its position in the consumer and corporate segments.
As for Apple, it ranked fourth in laptop sales in the second quarter of this year. At the same time, the company showed very good results, having sold more than 5.5 million MacBooks, which is 21% more than last year. Sales were boosted by the new M1 platform.
Acer closes the top five of the most popular laptop brands with 5.2 million units of portable computers sold and a market share of 7.9%. By the way, Acer showed the biggest growth in a year – 45%. Analysts predict a decline in notebook sales in the next quarter due to problems with the supply of semiconductor products.
