Anastácio: Liberation from the use of masks should only take place with the approval of science

In the frame Freedom of Opinion this Thursday (23), commentator Thiago Anastácio spoke about the mandatory use of masks in Brazil, based on a survey carried out by the Datafolha Institute this week.

According to the survey, 48% of Brazilians understand that the accessory must remain mandatory in all spaces. For 44%, the item should only be required indoors, while 8%, on the other hand, advocate the complete release of the accessory.

For Anastácio, the population’s conduct in relation to the use of masks must be in line with the recommendations of specialists. “I don’t think anything, neither should I. What doctors and infectious diseases advise is what we should do”, said the commentator.

“What I have been following is the guidance of science. We have a new variant, which, despite being less severe, is more transmissible. All health agencies in the world say that we must continue to wear masks, so that is what we have to do”, he argued.

Anastácio also made a comparison: opining on the use of masks, as a non-specialist, is like making a literary review of a book that has not been read.

“Of course, we would like to be without masks, especially during festive periods and when the heat is raging. But, unfortunately, we had no organization and guidance from the government, nor a solidary conscience for us to vaccinate the poor countries, from which the Ômicron and Delta variants came.”

Freedom of Opinion had the participation of Thiago Anastácio and Ricardo Baronovsky. The picture airs daily on CNN.
