The need for the EU to act, in a way that gives a clear message to Turkey that her behavior cannot be accepted, stressed the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadisin his intervention in the work of the informal European Council, in Prague.
In his statements to the mass media, its government representative Cyprus, Marios Pelekanos, who accompanies President Anastasiades to Prague, said that during the informal Council “the leaders of the 27 EU member states had discussions regarding the continuation of economic, military and other assistance to the troubled Ukraine. They also discussed securing the EU’s energy supply ahead of the coming winter, in the most cost-effective way, in order to alleviate the problem faced by households and businesses due to increased energy prices.
Also discussed were solutions to deal with inflation and inflationary pressures, a phenomenon that is observed both globally and at the European level, as well as the need to support the labor market and protect particularly vulnerable groups of the population.
The President of the Republic presented the proposals and positions of Cyprus on the issues discussed and underlined the role that the Eastern Mediterranean and, of course, Cyprus can play in the implementation of the European goal of de-dependence on Russian energy.
In this matter, the President also referred to the ongoing and increasing Turkish challenges, which are also an obstacle to the realization of European goals for de-dependence on Russian energy, and of course, he also referred to Turkey’s continued stance, with which it undermines the sanctions applied by the EU.
President Anastasiades stressed the need for the EU to act in such a way as to give a clear message that this behavior of Turkey cannot be accepted”.
