Anastasiadis: There is no question of accepting prerequisites to go to talks

“Any move to accept the demands of Ankara and its representative in the occupied territories would be a diversion from UN Security Council resolutions and the terms of the UN Secretary-General’s mandate. In an interview with the newspaper “FILELEFTHEROS tis Kyprou”, President Anastasiadis referred to the recent actions of Turkey in Famagusta and especially in the enclosed area of ​​Varosia, the role of the UN Secretary General and the SA resolutions, while sending a message to the international community. on the position of the Greek Cypriot side in the negotiations on the Cyprus issue:

“I have made it clear that there is no question of accepting prerequisites to go to talks. From the moment they claim that sovereign equality, or the domination of an illegal organization, will be recognized, the talks will be doomed to fail. Their goal is the two states. Where will they make concessions? In the troops? Since it will be a sovereign state, they will be able to host whoever they want. On the issue of guarantees? They will say that the guarantees are only for their own state, but at the same time they will not cease to be a threat to the other state. Or the issues of territorial adjustments for which we see how they behave today in Famagusta? They will not accept any territorial adjustment resulting in a stalemate. Such will be their demands regarding the ways of governing that will lead to a non-functional solution to be doomed to collapse “.

As far as Famagusta is concerned N. Anastasiadis says characteristically, according to the Athens News Agency:

“From the first moment we reacted and rang the alarm bell. We pointed out everywhere and from the first steps that their actions and decisions were preparing a new policy regarding the territorial adjustments but also the form of solution of the Cyprus problem. We did not limit ourselves to complaints. “They are a series of actions that have taken place since then, but unfortunately in the ears of the deaf, the non-excluded Secretary General or his representatives here who informed him in a way that was not objective.”

President Anastasiadis also notes that he does not see himself referring to his report to the UN Secretary General, even as an intention to convene talks. “Where there is a lack of objectivity in the Secretary-General’s report and I do not hesitate to say it, there is evidence that the guarantor forces were positive, which is completely foreign to reality, as Turkey insisted on maintaining the guarantees with right to review and not with an expiration date, while Greece wanted the abolition of guarantees and the withdrawal of troops. So did I have to accept something that would turn Cyprus or the Turkish Cypriots into a controlled part of Turkey? “They may have allowed the system to work for some time, but what happened with the rise of Tatar would then be done for the overthrow or non-functioning of the state and as a result would collapse.”
