The Mayor of Ohio wants immediate termination of the cop involved in the Andre Hill Killing case. The US police has time and again been involved in the killing of unarmed black men despite the growing number of protests against the practice.
The Andre Hill Killing
On 1.37 am Tuesday, the police responded to a non emergency call. A person in the neighborhood had noticed Andre sitting inside an SUV for a long period. When the police arrived, Andre was inside the garage of a house.
The body camera footage shows Hill holding his right hand out with the phone screen illuminated, which gives the impression that he was trying to show the officers what he was holding.
A white police officer identified as Adam Coy then shot the unarmed man. After shooting Andre, Coy orders him to roll over and show his left hand. The officer did not provide immediate medical assistance to the wounded man.
The 47 year old black male did not survive his injuries and passed away in the hospital.
The Mayor of Ohio, Andrew Ginther took strict notice of the incident. He stated that the deceased had not committed any crime and did not portray any threat. Moreover, he was not an intruder in the neighborhood and had been invited to the house, where he was found in the garage, as a guest.
The Officer in Charge
Adam Coy, the police officer behind the killing has a history of complaints against him. He is a white officer, serving as the veteran officer in the department. In 2012, a case related to use of excessive force was also lodged against him.
The Mayor said he was disgusted at the act and asked for immediate termination of the officer. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the case. The officer has been stripped of all his badges and honors.
