After eight hours of hearing in the Senate, former Minister of Justice and Public Security André Mendonça was approved to take the seat on the Federal Supreme Court by 47 votes to 32. In a speech to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), Mendonça reaffirmed his commitment with democracy and the defense of the secular state, after controversy involving the religious character of the nomination made by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

PEC of Precatório

With the hearing in Mendonça, the vote on the PEC of Precatório in the Senate was postponed again, with a new analysis scheduled for today. The purpose of the proposal is to finance Auxílio Brasil, the new social program that replaces Bolsa Família, whose MP also circulates in the Casa.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) today releases the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the third quarter of 2021. To prevent the spread of the Ômicron variant, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) asked the Federal Government to restrict flights from four more African countries: Angola, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. So far, six countries – South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe – have been targeted by the action, announced on the 26th.
