When Andrea Purgatori he died last July he had no brain metastases. The histological tests completed as part of the investigation by magistrates Sergio Colaiocco and Giorgio Orano agree on this. The tests were requested to understand and investigate the causes of the journalist’s disappearance. The prosecutors’ consultants and those of the parties met to take stock of the activities carried out in recent weeks at the forensic medicine institute of the Tor Vergata Polyclinic.
Andrea Purgatori was suffering from a tumor diagnosed a few months ago. Now it is necessary understand if the metastases were previously present and were eliminated by the therapies or if they were not there, the diagnosis was incorrect and the treatment caused damage that had become irreparable.
The tests are necessary steps in the proceedings initiated after the complaint by Purgatori’s family. There are two doctors under investigation for manslaughter: Professor Gianfranco Gualdi and his collaborator Claudio Di Biasi. Their opinion was opposite to that of other specialists. They had diagnosed an advanced tumor, with metastases to the brain. Others instead spoke of ischemia.
«Lawyers Alessandro and Michele Gentiloni Silveri communicate that, in relation to the preliminary results of the technical consultancy, circulated today, the Purgatori family takes note of the absence of brain metastases in Andrea Purgatori and, as from the beginning of this matter, continues to trust in the work of the Judiciary, with the sole intention of having the truth of the events and any responsibilities ascertained.” This is the family statement.
