Andreessen Horowitz Launches a16z Crypto Research Web3 Lab

Venture investment firm Andreessen Horowitz has launched the a16z Crypto Research Lab, which will conduct research in the field of cryptocurrencies and Web3.

Andreessen Horowitz believes that over the past decade, cryptocurrencies and Web3 have become a new “technological frontier” that combines cryptography, computer science, economics, finance, and the humanities. The Andreessen Horowitz guide compares blockchain and cryptocurrencies to personal computers and smartphones, as they are fully programmable. This is their uniqueness, because developers can write code that lays the foundation for how the product will function in the future. For example, the supply of bitcoin is limited to 21 million coins, and it is this property that forms a new computing model, the company writes.

With the advent of Ethereum and other programmable blockchains, a wide space has opened up for innovation. These include decentralized finance (DeFi); non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are in high demand among artists and other artists; blockchain-based games; and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), which do not require the participation of centralized intermediaries. Andreessen Horowitz is ready to explore these industries, which is why it announced the creation of a16z Crypto Research, an interdisciplinary laboratory.

The company will pay special attention to issues related to the development of Web3, scaling and development of computing infrastructures, as well as the introduction of tokens in various applications, including games and social networks. Andreessen Horowitz stressed that not only theoretical research, but also the implementation of scientific ideas, which must also comply with international regulatory rules, will become an important stage.

In the fall, Andreessen Horowitz began engaging with the US government on the regulation of cryptocurrencies and the Web3 ecosystem. And a few years ago, the company launched a cryptocurrency training course for entrepreneurs to educate them about the potential of the latest technologies.
