Andrew Tate: Authorities in Romania seized €4m worth of assets

Authorities in Romania have announced they have seized assets worth 18 million leu ($3.95 million) as part of a criminal human trafficking investigation that led to arrest of former professional kickboxer and controversial influencer Andrew Tate.

Last week, the National Agency for the Management of Confiscated Assets took custody of 29 movable assets, including luxury vehicles and watches, as well as various amounts of cash in different currencies, it said in a statement late Saturday.

Yesterday, a Reuters reporter saw several cars, including a Rolls-Royce, a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz, being moved from the Tate complex on the outskirts of the capital, Bucharest, to a storage facility.

Andrew Tate, his brother and two Romanian women were arrested on 29 December on charges of forming a criminal organization for the sexual exploitation of six women. All of them have denied the charges.

The detainees challenged their 30-day arrest warrant, but the Bucharest appeals court rejected the request last week, ordering them to remain in police custody.

Andrew Tate, a former contestant on the UK reality TV show Big Brother, became known for misogynistic comments and hate speech. He has said that women who are raped are partly responsible for their rape and that they belong to men.

Social media platforms such as Twitter banned Tate, but his Twitter account was reactivated in November after the platform was acquired by Elon Musk.

The climate activist Greta Thunberg had invited, via Twitter, this British national to find something to do, after he had told her that he owned 33 cars with “huge emissions”.
