The 18-year-olds were on holiday after exams and celebrating the end of their secondary education with dozens of their classmates from a Dublin school, when the tragedy happened. O’Donnell is believed to have fallen and hit his head while walking home along some cliffs to his hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning after a night out in the capital Iou.
The corpse of O’Donnell was found on Sunday morning and news of his death later that day made his friend, Wall, to collapse from the shock. According to local media, the young man had a history of heart problems.
Andrew’s father Gavin is said to be devastated, he told the dailymail.co.uk his close family friend. “Gavin described Andrew as his ‘favourite boy’ in a message to me. Gavin is a very giving person, as is his whole family.”
“Andrew’s grandfather, Joe, is a doctor and they are both very proud of Andrew, who was in the prime of his life. This is a devastating tragedy,” he added. “It’s inexplicable. He and Max were so young. We don’t know why this happened. We mourn for both families.”
The parents of both O’Donnell and Wall are now on their way to Greece to find out the results of the autopsy and take them with them to Ireland the remains of their children.
What does the Greek police say?
The police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglidousaid: “Although the injuries to O’Donnell’s neck and head suggest at first glance that he veered off course – that he tripped and fell – we are also investigating the possibility of criminal negligence”.
According to reports, the police may investigate if their drinks were adulteratedalthough Demoglidou was clear that the results of the autopsy to be performed today will be “determinative” of the investigation into the deaths of O’Donnell and Wall’s classmate.
“If verified by the findings of the autopsy that will be conducted on Tuesday, the authorities will proceed to initiate a criminal investigation,” the researchers said.
