Andrey Lugovoy, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, commented on the information about the complete ban on cryptocurrencies in Russia

Andrey Lugovoi, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, commented on a Bloomberg report that the Federal Security Service (FSB) convinced the head of the Central Bank (CB) of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, to support a complete ban on operations with cryptocurrencies in our country.

Of course, I do not participate in the discussion between the FSB and the Central Bank, but I doubt the correctness of this information. To date, the State Duma has created a working group on the circulation of cryptocurrencies, it includes representatives of almost all law enforcement agencies, including the FSB. Nowhere and never, from anyone from the FSB, I have not heard about whether it is worth banning or is it worth placing cryptocurrency.

Bloomberg claims that the Federal Security Service insists that payments in cryptocurrency are very difficult to trace, while in our country there are approximately 17 million crypto wallets registered. Earlier, in December, Elvira Nabiullina opposed the use of Russian financial infrastructure for transactions with cryptocurrencies. Then she assured that the regulator could implement this restriction. The Central Bank reported that the provision of services with cryptocurrency does not meet the interests of investors and carries great risks.

In September, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that equating bitcoin with money can only harm the financial and economic systems, so Russia is not going to recognize this cryptocurrency.
