The StatCounter web traffic analysis service has summed up the results of February for Android versions of smartphones and tablets.

The Android operating system and manufacturers of devices based on it have long been criticized for not being stable enough and quickly outgoing updates. Google is actively working on this and in December announced a record – Android 11 became the fastest version of the OS in terms of adoption rate.

The stable version of Android 11 was released to the public on September 8, 2020. And now, six months after the release, the situation with updates is as follows.
In the US, every first of the five Android devices has been updated to the latest OS. More than 20% of smartphones and tablets received Android 11. The newest OS has already almost overtaken Android 9 Pie, but Android 10 is still noticeably ahead of it. The top 3 looks like this:
- Android 10 — 37,43%
- Android 9 Pie – 20.48%
- Android 11 — 20,29%
Google and Samsung took part in the updates especially intensively. If we take only smartphones, then the share of Android 10 is 39.16, Android 11 is knocked out to second place with 22.09%, and Android 9.0 Pie falls to third from 19.87%.

Internationally, Android 11 isn’t doing so well yet. Android 11 has not yet gained enough share to move out of the “rest” category with all OS versions out of the rating, represented by the dotted line in the graph and barely overtaking Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is in fourth place, with a share of 5.4%. If we consider only smartphones, without tablets, then Android 11 even entered the Top 5:
- Android 10 — 42,71%
- Android 9 Pie – 20.07%
- Android 8.1 Oreo – 9.46%
- Android 11 — 20,29%
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow —  5,3%
Just for comparison, according to Apple statistics as of February 24, 80% of iPhones are already running the latest iOS 14, and 70% of iPads are running iPadOS 14. iOS and iPadOS 14 were released on September 16, 2020.
