Android 12 has completely redesigned widgets. This is how they look now

The 12th version of the “green robot” has changed a lot visually: and we are talking not only about the new design direction Material You, but also about radically redesigned widgets. They not only adapt to the accent colors of the system, but also have extraordinary shapes. Already, you can take a look at the new widgets – some applications from Google itself support them. Have they come close to neat and beautifully implemented iOS counterparts?

Google App

The beta version (so far) of the Google app has already received fancy, Material You-style, rounded-edge widgets that show the weather in the current location. They change depending on the selected system theme and show conditions in addition to temperature.

Google Keep

The branded notes application received two new widgets at once, one of which is rather fancy. Like everyone else, they adapt to the current color palette and the chosen theme. A regular widget looks like a list of notes with an additional panel of buttons. The flower version looks more compact, but in practice it takes up the same amount of space on the desktop – if you compress it vertically, it turns into a regular row of function buttons.

Chrome Beta

Browser widgets are only available for Chrome Beta and Chrome Canary versions. Three new ones were added to the existing, but slightly updated widgets for bookmarks and search. Two of them differ in size and contain several buttons for quick functions in addition to the prompt line. The third widget is designed exclusively for launching a branded dinosaur game. All new items change their background according to the chosen theme of the device.

Google Clock

The clock received five different widgets at once: in addition to those in the screenshots above, you can place a regular digital block located horizontally and a world clock showing the time in two cities at once. The most interesting in terms of animation and shape is in the form of a cogwheel. The date in this widget moves at the same time as the dot illustrating the seconds.

Google Drive

Google Drive widgets are similar to those for notes. Unless there is no file list – instead, the usual button bar for quick actions. In any case, it looks much better than the sharp-cornered black semi-transparent solid that came before.

Google Photos

You can put only one widget for Google Photos – a selection of the best moments. This is a set of your photos taken at the same time automatically generated by the service. They are displayed in a box with rounded edges and are signed with the date or collection name.
