Android has learned to notify if the application consumes a lot of battery in the background

Battery life has been and remains the stumbling block of any smartphone, and developers are always trying to overcome this problem. Google decided to go in two ways to fix this problem: not only by all kinds of optimization of the internal components of the system, but also by signaling the user about excessive power consumption of a particular program. So, in Android 13, a notification appeared that a particular application consumes too much battery in the background. This was reported by the publication 9To5Google.

This notification is generated based on a 24-hour analysis – it appears only if the utility uses the processor excessively for a long period, and not once. It is noteworthy that Android 13 will be able to analyze the power consumption of any application, regardless of the SDK version.

It is reported that the re-notification will not appear again – “for at least 24 hours”. In addition, Google emphasizes in the documentation for developers:

If the system detects that your app is using excessive battery while it is displaying a notification associated with foreground services, the system will wait until the user dismisses the notification or until the foreground services terminate, and then displays the notification only in in case your application continues to consume excessive battery.

However, some categories of applications will not be taken into account by the battery consumption monitoring system:

  • system utilities;
  • applications running in demo mode;
  • device owner and profile owner programs;
  • permanent utilities;
  • VPN clients;
  • applications with the ROLE_DIALER role;
  • programs for which the user has independently installed unlimited functionality in the system settings.
