The proprietary EMUI 11 is used as a shell, which can be adapted for both Android and the new HarmonyOS. Devices with HarmonyOS can closely interact with each other, in particular, there is a close connection between the smartphone and the TV. The OS is fully developed by Huawei and supports Android applications.

Interestingly, feedback from HarmonyOS test takers has begun to appear on the social network Weibo, noting that the platform is not Android-based at all, as previously suspected. However, as seen in the demo, Android apps run smoothly and quickly on a smartphone.

Huawei has already published the open source OpenHarmony project on the Gitee platform, the local Chinese equivalent of GitHub.

At the moment, testing is being carried out on a small number of developers and partners. In December, the beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0 (in China – Hongmeng OS 2.0) on Huawei P40, P40 Pro, Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro and MatePad Pro. And recently came the turn of Huawei P30 and Mate 30 Pro 5G.
