Android TV 12 officially released, but not available to everyone yet

Nearly two months after the stable release of Android 12 for mobile devices, Google has finally announced Android 12 for smart TVs and set-top boxes. The latest version of the TV platform contains new features, including support for the 4K interface, as well as security and privacy improvements. The company says that thanks to Android 12 TV, users will be able to improve the experience on their devices.

The main changes include improved media reproduction. Android 12 TV avoids the judder effect (picture shake) by dynamically switching the screen refresh rate depending on the content. Thanks to 4K support, the interface and all system elements are clearer and without blurring. Previously, the interface was displayed at a maximum resolution of 1080p, and then scaled to fit the TV screen. Other innovations include accessibility for font sizes, microphone and camera indicators, and support for HDMI CEC 2.0.

To get Android TV 12, you need a proprietary Google ADT-3 set-top box designed for developers. An update is already available to the owners of these devices. The rest will have to wait while Google tests the new version of the system and makes it available to everyone.
